DO IT YOURSELF DIVORCE

By "do it yourself, I mean that
either you and your spuse each represent  yourself or one of you has an attorney an the other one represents themselves.  I

If each of you is not represented , then  you will need to research
Iowa Code, Iowa caselaw, and
local court rules in order to
proceed correctly.  The Iowa State Supeme Court now allows us to represent you in a limited way, so you may want to hire us for certain
things, like initially fully advising
you, ($315),  drafting the Petition for Dissolution ($315), supporting you during mediation ($640) preparing the chiild support worksheet, (315)( or reviewing their child support worksheet ($315).

If only one of you is represented, and the other is not, and you are the one who is not represented, then you are pro se.  You and your spouse may have agreed on certain things, but beware of what the attorney puts in the final decree.  MOST OF THE TIME, WHATEVER YOU VERBALLY AGREE TO, BY LAW, GETS "SUBSUMED"  (melted into) THE FINAL WRITTEN DECREE.  After a decree is signed, it is hard
to argue that the decree does not represent what you agreed to!  You can call our firm to review your final decree, or represent you in a limited way in any part of the divorce process.

Be sure and get an attorney to represent you in reviewing the final decree that is put together.  Attorneys are sneaky, and if an attorney represents the other side he/she will try to get the best deal for his/her client.  There may be language in the Decree that is not in your best interests and you may be hating yourself if you sign the decree!   Call our firm to review the Decree before signing on the dotted line.  Its the rest of your life!  Let's get the Decree right.
